SIGNS OF TYPE 1 DIABETES
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder. The immune system of the body attacks beta cells of pancreas that are
responsible for producing insulin and destroy them. As a result pancreas either produces little or no
insulin.
Causes of Type 1 Diabetes
Till so far the cause of the attack of immune system to destroy the beta cells is not
known. Still it is believed that contributing factor of type 1 disease could be genes, environment or even in
some case viruses are involved. This diabetes type 1 accounts for about 5% - 10 % of the entire identified
cases of diabetes in the United States of America. It is more common in young adults and children but
it can be detected at any age.
Signs of Type 1 Diabetes
Signs of type 1 diabetes start to appear in a short period of time; though destruction
of beta cells by autoimmune system can sometime take few years. The early warning signs of type 1 diabetes
include
- Increased thirst
- Frequent Urination
- Unquenchable hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme tiredness and fatigue
If these symptoms of diabetes are ignored and diabetes is not diagnosed in time it can
put the diabetic person into a life threatening situation like diabetic coma.
